Bringing the magic and joy of giant puppetry, parading, and community arts to rural Appalachia.
Who We Are
Started in 2024, Schoolhouse Puppets brings giant puppetry, parading arts, and community creativity to rural southern Appalachia.
We are a group of puppeteers, artists, performers, tinkerers, and creatives from Madison County, NC.
We maintain a community studio, lead parades and performances, offer workshops, and host an annual Winter Solstice Lantern Walk in downtown Marshall, NC. We are completely volunteer-run and donation-funded.
We love collaborating with local artists and organizations, and we get a lot of support from our friends at Street Creature Puppet Collective in Asheville, NC (thank you, creatures!).
Schoolhouse Puppets is an established 501 (c) (3).
Weekly meetings
In-person meetings will begin Thursday, October 22, 2026.
We meet almost every Thursday evening (unless it’s a major holiday or the weather is bad) at the Walnut Community Center in central Madison County.
